Moscow (ANN)- Russian President Vladimir Putin claims his forces have captured today ,the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk. Putin warned that Europe is obstructing peace efforts said Moscow is prepared to respond if European states escalate the conflict.
He says the capture will “resolve key tasks” in his offensive. The Ukrainian military has told the Reuters news agency they are still holding norhern parts of the city.
Russian President Vladimir Putin meets top commanders at a frontline command post after claiming the capture of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. He thanks senior officers and troops, calling the area crucial to Russia’s military objectives. Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov reports additional gains, including Vovchansk.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russian forces fully control the eastern Ukrainian cities of Krasnoarmeysk and Kupyansk, dismissing Kyiv’s claims of continued fighting and accusing Ukraine’s leadership of misrepresenting battlefield conditions.
Putin warned that Europe is obstructing peace efforts by attempting to alter proposals backed by U.S. President Donald Trump and said Moscow is prepared to respond if European states escalate the conflict. He described recent Ukrainian attacks on ships as “piracy” and said Russia could expand strikes on port infrastructure or consider blocking Ukraine’s access to the sea. Putin added that Western and Ukrainian journalists are welcome to travel to the captured areas to verify Russian control.
Meanwhile shuttle diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine continues. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Tuesday, after the White House said it was “very optimistic” about reaching a deal to end the Ukraine war.
The summit comes after two days of negotiations in Florida between Ukrainian and US officials, including Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, aimed at refining a US-backed peace plan which had been viewed as favourable to Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the talks as “constructive”, but said there were “some tough issues that still have to be worked through”.
Witkoff met the Russian leader earlier this year, but this time he will bring the amended version of the original 28-point peace plan. but Ukraine has now tentatively backed this version for Peace.
