Riyadh  (ANN)- A joint statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia has revealed strong regional opposition to a recent Israeli diplomatic move concerning Somalia.
According to the statement, foreign ministers from several countries—including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Turkey, and Indonesia—have strongly condemned Israel’s reported appointment of a diplomatic envoy to what was described as “Somaliland territory.”
The ministers emphasized that such a move represents a clear violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming their unified stance in support of the Federal Government of Somalia.
Firm Rejection of Unilateral Actions
The joint communiqué stressed a complete rejection of unilateral measures that undermine state sovereignty. It reiterated consistent support for Somalia’s unity and the legitimacy of its federal institutions, describing them as the sole representatives of the Somali people.
The statement further warned that actions of this nature threaten to destabilize the already fragile political environment in the Horn of Africa.
Violation of International Law
Ministers also underscored that the move contradicts established principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the founding framework of the African Union.
They described the development as a dangerous precedent that could undermine peace and security across the region, particularly in the Horn of Africa.
Regional Implications
Analysts note that the issue could further complicate diplomatic relations in the region, especially given Somaliland’s long-standing quest for international recognition, which remains unrecognized by the global community.
The statement signals growing regional alignment against any external actions perceived as interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs.
