Hargeisa(ANN)-The Tropical cyclone “SAGAR” which formed in the Gulf of Aden and hit Somaliland has negatively affected estimated 12,450 families mostly the coastal living communities under the regions of Sahil, Selel and Sanaag. The torrential floods, and storms of the Cyclone caused the deaf of over thirty people, casualties, the deaf of some thousands of livestock species (Shoats and camels), loss and damages of other properties including houses, shelters, farms, communal services, businesses, boats, and other utilities. Most affected areas are the drone landed settlements including Lughaya, Geeri, Bulahar, Ceelsheikh, Abdi Geedi, Hadayta, Sabawanaag, Adhicadays, also Baki, and areas close to Borama, and Berbera as well as other communities in the coastal districts under Sanaag region. Those communities have been affected by displacement and destruction of infrastructure in Sagar’s wake, and deprived of their shelters and basic necessities in general.

The Somaliland Government is very responsibility responding to the emergency, and President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Behi Abdi issued an urgent appeal to both local and international communities for relief assistance.

Therefore, Somaliland Diaspora Agency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland strongly urges Somaliland Diaspora communities around the world to take part in the relief efforts to assist the vulnerable citizens affected by the disaster who are in need of food security, shelter, clothes, water and medicine for the immediate response and further support in recovering from the impact in the long term.
