Riyadh(ANN)-Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdel-Latif Zayyani is to visit Qatar to hand over the invitation of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Bin Abdel-Aziz to Qatari Emir Tamim Bin Hamad to attend the GCC summit in the Kingdom this month.

Kuwaiti media on Friday reported diplomatic sources as saying that the preparatory meetings for the upcoming summit are to take place in Oman. According to the reports, Kuwait has worked hard to guarantee the participation of Qatar in the summit, noting “its efforts have succeeded”.

Gulf diplomatic sources reiterated that the GCC summit is to be held in the Saudi city of Dammam – on the country’s east coast – instead of the capital Riyadh, because King Salman will be there as part of an internal tour which began early in November.

Last year, only the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Saudi Arabia sent ministers or deputies to the GCC summit due to the siege they imposed on Qatar, along with Egypt, in June 2017.
