Hargeisa (ANN)- The spokesman for the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hussein Adan Igeh (Deyr), spoke about the trip of the President of the Republic of Somaliland to Nairobi.

The Spokesperson’s article regarding the President’s trip was as follows.

During his official visit to the Republic of Kenya, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), conducted a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing regional cooperation, and advancing Somaliland’s global vision—anchored in peace, democracy, prosperity, and principled diplomacy.

In a substantive meeting with H.E. President William Ruto, the two Heads of State exchanged views on deepening economic cooperation, focusing on trade facilitation, investment promotion, infrastructure development, and maritime and regional security.

Their discussions underscored a shared commitment to unlocking the Horn of Africa’s strategic potential through inclusive growth and collaborative leadership.

President Abdirahman Irro also engaged in discussions with the Speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula. They explored avenues to expand inter-parliamentary collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote the exchange of democratic best practices—highlighting the critical role of legislative diplomacy in fostering good governance and mutual understanding.

A defining milestone of the visit was the official inauguration of the Republic of Somaliland’s Mission in Nairobi on 29 May 2025. This diplomatic achievement marks a significant step forward in Somaliland’s international outreach, providing essential consular services, supporting diaspora affairs, and serving as a gateway for deepening cooperation across political, economic, and cultural domains.

Equally consequential was President Irro’s high-level engagement with the international diplomatic corps in Nairobi—an assertive demonstration of Somaliland’s growing influence and credibility on the global stage.

Accompanied by senior officials and the Somaliland Mission team, the President led substantive, agenda-setting discussions with ambassadors, deputy heads of mission, and senior representatives from the United Nations, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and partner nations with enduring ties to Somaliland.

His Excellency articulated a clear and visionary agenda rooted in enduring peace, democratic revitalization, economic transformation, and enhanced regional integration. He underscored that Somaliland’s unwavering commitment to accountable governance, institutional resilience, and purposeful international engagement is firmly established and steadily advancing.

With a distinguished record of stability and self-determination, Somaliland is no longer petitioning for recognition—it is asserting its rightful place as a strategic partner on the global stage.

A key highlight of these discussions was the announcement of Somaliland’s initiative to integrate community-based forces into the national security framework. This bold step has unified command structures, reinforced long-term stability, and fostered national cohesion. International partners praised the initiative as a model of inclusive, community-driven peacebuilding and pragmatic state-building within the region.

Throughout the visit, President Abdirahman Irro reaffirmed Somaliland’s readiness to deepen collaboration on shared priorities—including infrastructure development, climate resilience, youth empowerment, and regional security.

International partners responded with renewed support—recognizing Somaliland as a credible, capable, and forward-leaning actor within a complex and dynamic regional context.

This official visit marks a pivotal chapter in Somaliland’s diplomatic journey. It reaffirms the Republic’s principled foreign policy—rooted in mutual respect, regional solidarity, and steadfast commitment to global partnership.
