Hargeisa (ANN)-Somaliland the entire country is celebrating May 18th with great enthusiasm this year, with extensive preparations underway in all regions of the country. This event marks the 34th anniversary of the day the people of Somaliland regained their independence on May 18, 1991, which was declared in the city of Burco, the capital of Togdheer region.

Somaliland is generally felt in the preparation of the most valuable celebration of May, the 34th anniversary, with a on the day 18 May. At this celebration 2025, it emerged, and Somaliland has survived conflicts in Sool region.
The event marked the day the people of Somaliland reaffirmed their independence from the United Kingdom on June 26, 1960, following a period of misery, genocide, looting and humiliation five days later Union of Somalia July 1, 1960.

However, the people of Somaliland fought a brutal war against Mohamed Siad Barre’s military rule, which was eventually overthrown, so May 18th is extremely important to Somaliland’s.
The 34th anniversary of the May 18, 2025, event comes at a time when Somaliland has not yet received any recognition from the world, although we have not caused any disappointment to the people of Somaliland in the thirty-odd years of lack of recognition that the people of Somaliland have felt and have not changed their position and desire for their nationhood.
