Hargeisa (ANN)- The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilaahi (Cirro) and the delegation he led on a working trip to Kenya, returned to the country today. The President and his delegation were welcomed at the Egal International Airport by the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, ministers, military commanders and other officials.

The delegation were also welcomed at the Presidential Palace by the Speaker of the two Houses of Parliament, MPs, members of the Council of Ministers, traditional leaders, businessmen, women and other dignitaries.


He  spoke about the successes of his trip and the needs of the society, noting that there are many jobs for Somaliland, and it is necessary to unite the many tasks awaiting the nation, which he said is the only way to achieve the recognition that Somaliland has been seeking for the last 34 years.

The President underlined that the trip to Nairobi, where they were hosted by the President of Kenya, William Ruto, was a great and historic success, which elevated the status of Somaliland, and provided them with a platform to showcase to the rest of the world the progress, governance and democracy that Somaliland has achieved.


The President also spoke about the elections and his term of office, stating that we are not ready for anything other than the election he took office in, and that we will not allow a day to be added to the term of office.

“We have done a lot internally, but the task before us is greater, we can overcome it by uniting our cause so that we can seek recognition together.” said President Cirro.

Speaking about his trip, the President said that the purpose of his trip to Kenya was achieved, and during their stay, he pointed out that the main task they accomplished was to open a Somaliland office in Nairobi.

He mentioned the meeting between him and Kenyan President William Ruto, where they discussed many issues, “In the meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto, we agreed on everything we discussed.” he said. The most important thing in Kenya is that we met with the Kenyan Parliament in both houses, with the President specifically mentioning the meeting in Nairobi between the international community, and pointing out that the things that have been of great concern to the world have finally come to an end with the November 2024 elections, as well as the security measures taken by his government such as the Ceel-Afweyn peace agreement, the disarmed and nationalized local forces, and the census of the national army, which the world considers important, indicating that the Somaliland government has done a lot and the reputation it has earned for Somaliland in the international community.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), said that there is a need to work together on the recognition of Somaliland, and noted that during his visit to the countries of the region, he had previously visited Djibouti and his recent trip to Kenya, but he is planning to visit Ethiopia, a country that, according to him, is of great importance to Somaliland.

 

“We have done little internally, we need more, what we need is unity and peace, Somaliland is buying both, I am grateful to the people for bringing peace to the country while holding hands, and recognition, , will come while holding hands. But the government alone is not enough, every citizen must work towards the recognition of Somaliland, said the President of Somaliland.

Also,  he speaking about the constitutional term he was elected, he said, “I thank my people for electing me President, but I tell them that they have elected me for five years and I will not be adding a day to it.”
