Nairobi (ANN)-The Delegation lead by President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) arrived in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, which is welcomed.

The President of Somaliland and his delegation were welcomed to Kenya by the Minister of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime affair of Kenya Hon, Hassan Ali Joho and other officials.

Also, Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed (Barawani), the Somaliland representative in Kenya, and his deputy welcomed the President and his delegation at the Nairobi airport, while some of the Somaliland community in Kenya, which holds an important place in Kenya’s history, warmly welcomed the President and his delegation upon their arrival in Nairobi.

Somaliland President’s spokesman Hussein Aden Cigge (Dayr) told the press before the President and his delegation departed from Egal International Airport that the Somaliland President will be in Nairobi to hold meetings with Kenyan leaders and will also inaugurate the construction of the new Somaliland office in Nairobi.

The visit of the delegation of the President of the Republic of Somaliland to Kenya has coincided with the Kenya has provides clarity on Somaliland Republic Liaison Office in Nairobi, accoding to statment ussed by the office of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya.

The statement from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated 26 May 2025, was posted on the “X” Twitter account.

But a short time later, the Kenyan government issued another statement suspending it.The Kenyan government has pulled the brakes on a planned inauguration of the Somaliland Liaison Office into a diplomatic office citing the country’s “unwavering recognition” of the federal government of Somalia.


In a statement released on Monday evening, the State Department for Foreign Affairs directed that the event scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, be abandoned as it had not received necessary approval.

“The Ministry further notes with concern that to the extent the event of 27th May 2025 has not been granted approval from this Ministry, its investiture of the status of a Diplomatic Office does not enjoy the imprimatur of the Republic of Kenya and cannot be allowed to proceed,”

Just hours before the ban, Kenya reaffirmed her recognition of the federal government of Somalia, wich come planned Nairobi visit of Somaliland President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi.

In the initial statement, Kenya said that it acknowledged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s federal administration out of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity and political independence of Somalia.
