Fellow Somalilanders,
At this pivotal time in our history, we are called upon to rise in unity and purpose to defend the statehood, dignity, and future of our beloved nation the Republic of Somaliland. For over three decades, we have built peace from ashes, established democratic institutions, and promotrd a culture of political participation, tolerance, and national identity despite international isolation and limited resources.
Today, however, we face an increasingly coordinated campaign—one that is being waged not on battlefields but in the digital arena. Our adversaries, including foreign actors such as Somalia,China, Egypt, Turkey, and Eritrea, are deploying sophisticated strategies to weaken our unity, delegitimize our sovereignty, and destabilize our region. These external forces are collaborating with internal political opportunists and media agents who amplify division, hatred, and disinformation.
This is not a coincidence it is a deliberate, organized, and well-funded political war aimed at undermining Somaliland’s existence by arming our Eastern sool Malitia.
Social media, once a tool for connection and awareness, has become a platform for misinformation, propaganda, and hate. Instead of uniting us, it is now being used to fracture our cohesion, discredit our leaders, and turn citizens against one another. We must end this cycle of online toxicity.
This year, let us make a collective decision:
- Reject the spread of fake news and political manipulation.
- Stop attacking our institutions and leaders without facts or accountability.
- Promote truth, peace, and patriotism in all our online interactions.
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to destroy. We must protect our democracy by using our voices responsibly.
Our Government Needs Our Supprt
No government is perfect but in times of national threat, criticism must be constructive, and unity must be our foundation. This is not the time to weaken ourselves with infighting or tribal rhetoric. Instead:
- Let us stand with the government in defending our borders, advancing diplomacy, and promoting our international recognition.
- Let us support our diplomats and ministries in the ongoing struggle for visibility and respect on the world stage.
- Let us urge our political parties to put the nation first and collaborate for the greater good, rather than sow division for short-term gain.
The Responsibility of Every Citizen
This is not only a fight for politicians or elites. This is a national responsibility. Each one of us students, professionals, elders, women, youth, and diaspora has a role to play in defending our nation:
- Educators and intellectuals must counter lies with facts and history.
- Influencers and activists must lead with responsibility, not emotion.
- Religious leaders must preach peace and unity, not suspicion.
- Journalists must uphold the truth and protect our national interest.
- The diaspora must mobilize support, correct misinformation abroad, and invest in our development.
Somaliland’s enemies fear our resilience, our unity, and our democratic achievements. That is why they seek to divide us. But we say to them:
We are stronger than your propaganda.
We are united beyond your interference.
And our destiny is not yours to decide.
Let us defend our national values peace, democracy, and independence—with pride and purpose. Let us amplify our achievements, share our story with the world, and hold each other accountable as proud sons and daughters of Somaliland.
Somaliland belongs to all of us. Its future depends on our unity, discipline, and unwavering love for our land. This is the year to rise as one people, silence the agents of chaos, and proudly declare to the world:
We are Somaliland. We are united. And we are here to stay.
Long live Somaliland. Long live our people. Long live our sovereignty.
