Damascus (ANN) -The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed has met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
It is the first visit by a senior UAE government official to Syria since the country’s civil war began 10 years ago.
The Exact purpose of the visit is Not Known at this time, but According to the Syrian presidency, the two sides at the meeting Syrian Presidential Palace on Tuesday and held bilateral met, which it focused on rebuilding the country.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and foreign minister of UAE Abdullah bin Zayed, discussed ways to boost cooperation as well as investment opportunities, according to Assad’s office.
Foreign Minister Zayed, for his part, stressed that the UAE supports all efforts to end the Syrian crisis, strengthen stability in the country, and fulfil, the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people, according to the UAE News Agency. WAM.
In February 2012, when the country was rocked by a series of uprisings that later turned into armed groups seeking to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, the country entered a decade-long war.
At the time, the Gulf states cut ties with Syria, strongly supporting the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government, but failed, despite the country’s fighting there left a thousand homeless Syrians have fled to Europe and Africa.
Assad has accused most Arab states of backing rebels trying to overthrow him, but in December 2018, the Gulf state reopened its embassy in Damascus.
