Qatar: Saudis welcome in Doha, seeking end to Gulf crisis

Doha(ANN)- Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani reiterated his country’s support of Kuwait’s initiative to resolve the Gulf crisis, stressing that his country cannot control this crisis as it is not of its making.

Al-Thani also pointed out that Saudis are welcome to 2022 World Cup – which is to be held in Qatar – and at any other time, pointing out that his country hasn’t prevented any Gulf nationals from visiting, unlike those countries which have imposed the embargo.

During a press conference with his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, Al-Thani said he “hop[es] that wisdom will prevail so that the Gulf crisis will come to an end”. He stressed that “Qatar is open to unconditional dialogue, which must abide by international law and preserve the sovereignty of every state without, compromising the dignity of any other in return”.

“Our peoples are the ones to pay the price and become dispersed and separated. We are still looking forward to a strong cooperation council and we are still looking for relationships to be restored.”

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar, claiming that it supports terrorism. However, Qatar denies these claims and considers the move an attempt to control its sovereignty.
