Tel Aviv (ANN)-The Jewish state of Israel has reacted angrily after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler “had Jewish blood”.

Mr Lavrov made the remarks in an interview with Italian TV station Zona Bianca on Sunday.

He spoke about the war in Ukraine, and the interview came days after Israel celebrated the Holocaust, one of the most important events in Israel’s history.

However, the Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to clarify the matter and demanded an apology for Lavrov’s remarks.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said: “Such lies are meant to blame the Jews themselves for the most terrible crimes in history and thus free the oppressors of the Jews from their responsibility.

“No war today is the Holocaust or is like the Holocaust.”

Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid reacted angrily, calling Mr Lavrov’s words “unforgivable”

Despite the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy is of Jewish descent, Sergei Lavrov was responding to Ukraine’s portrayal of Russia as a Nazi.

It is worth noting that the current prime minister of Israel Naftali Bennet is of Ukrainian Jewish origin.

Sergei Lavrov also, in an interview with Italian Television on Sunday, warned that people in the Azovstal steel plant included Western officials and mercenaries, saying, “Kyiv authorities are trying their best. Contact the remaining Ukrainian extremists in Azovstal and hide them, as there may be Western officials and mercenaries.”

“I explained the fact that there are many actors who we will check on the presence of mercenaries and, perhaps, the active officers of the Western forces on the extremist side of Ukraine,” Lavrov said.
