BURCO, Somaliland (ANN) — Somaliland’s Ministry of Education and Science, in cooperation with the National Examination Office, today, August 24, 2026, held a ceremony in Burco, the capital of Togdheer Region, to announce the results of the national examinations for primary, intermediate and secondary school students.
The ceremony presented the results of the annual national examinations taken by students across Somaliland, with education officials highlighting the overall performance of students and ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education.
According to the information presented during the ceremony, the number of students who failed the examinations was significantly lower this year compared with previous years. The development indicates an improvement in the overall examination performance and the number of students successfully completing their respective educational levels.
The Ministry of Education and the National Examination Office also presented figures showing the number of students who sat for this year’s national examinations. The figures highlighted the large number of students participating in Somaliland’s national examination system compared with the number of students who sat for national examinations in Somalia.
A total of 42,519 students registered and sat for the examinations across all regions of Somaliland. The candidates included more than 16,400 Form Four secondary school students and 26,119 Grade Eight primary school students.
The official results-release ceremony will take place at the Eastern Regional Headquarters of the National Examination Office in Burao, Togdheer Region, where education officials are expected to formally announce the examination results.
The announcement comes as students, parents, teachers and schools across Somaliland await the outcome of the national examinations and the progression of students to the next stage of their education.
The examination results mark an important stage for students completing their primary, intermediate and secondary education, particularly those preparing to move on to the next level of their studies.
The Burco ceremony also provided an opportunity for education authorities to discuss efforts to strengthen the national examination system, improve educational standards and enhance the quality of learning across Somaliland.
Parents, teachers and students had been eagerly awaiting the release of this year’s examination results. Students who successfully passed the examinations will now proceed to the next stage of their education.
