Tehran (ANN) – Iran has announced that it will not proceed with peace negotiations with the United States unless two major conditions are met: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of its frozen financial assets.
Iranian officials stated that these demands are not new and had already been مطرح in earlier discussions. They emphasized that without tangible progress on both issues, no formal talks will take place with Washington.
Ceasefire Linked to Regional Stability
The first condition focuses on ending ongoing hostilities in Lebanon, which Iran views as essential to calming wider regional tensions. Tehran has indicated that entering negotiations while conflict continues would undermine any serious diplomatic effort.
The situation in Lebanon remains closely tied to broader Middle East dynamics, including tensions involving Israel and allied groups. Iran’s leadership believes stability must come first before dialogue can succeed.
Frozen Assets Remain a Major Sticking Point
The second demand involves Iran’s frozen financial assets, which have been restricted under sanctions led by the United States. Tehran has long argued that access to these funds is a critical step toward rebuilding trust.
The issue has remained one of the most persistent obstacles in relations between Iran and Washington, with both sides holding firm positions.
Talks Face Uncertainty
The announcement comes at a time when both Iran and the United States were expected to resume discussions aimed at reducing tensions and exploring diplomatic solutions. However, these new conditions could delay progress and complicate efforts to restart negotiations.
Despite the challenges, analysts note that the willingness to outline conditions publicly signals that channels for dialogue are still open, even if significant hurdles remain.
A Fragile Path Forward
Iran’s position highlights the complexity of current geopolitical tensions, where regional conflicts and long-standing disputes continue to shape diplomatic possibilities.
While both sides appear interested in avoiding further escalation, meaningful progress will likely depend on addressing these core issues in the coming weeks.
