Hargeysa(ANN)- The opening of the Hargeisa International Book Fair on its fourteenth anniversary # HIBF2021 was held this morning in Hargeisa. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail (Saylici), Ministers from neighboring countries, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Diplomats, Businessmen, Scholars and Cultural Groups, from Ethiopia and Djibouti.

The Hargeisa Book Fair, which is held annually by the Hargeisa Cultural Center, was cancelled in 2020 due to the global epidemic of COVID-19. This year was of particular interest, groups from the nine regions of the Federal Government of Ethiopia showcased the culture and heritage of the Ethiopian people

Chairman of the Cultural Center of the #HIBF, Jama Muse Jama spoke at the Opening ceremony of the 14th International Book Fair the Hargeisa #HIBF2021, “We’re Happy to host Ethiopia as the guest of this year’s book for. We also welcome the delegates from different countries.” said, Dr. Jama.

“Again we’re happy to welcome a ministerial delegation from Djibouti and Somali Region of Ethiopia as well as diplomatic representatives from UK, Taiwan, Czech Republic and European Union.” Said, Dr. Jama Muse Jama.

Djibouti’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Youth, Dr. Hibo Moumin Assoweh. speaking at the Hargeisa Book Fair, she said, “Literature, artists, filmmakers, photographers and many young Djiboutian are joining us at the Hqrgeisa International Book Fair.”

The minister continued, “This center brings together people who love books and culture. Culture has to be the key to getting people closer and more open. So we are very happy to represent the youth, literature and culture and we are happy with how beautiful we are. ”

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, Omar Siyad Ibrahim, said that the Hargeisa Cultural Center, which represents Somaliland, is a leader and educator for Somali youth in the Horn of Africa region.

“I am honored to attend the Hargeisa International Book Fair, which is not the first time we have attended the event, from various departments, such as the Jigjiga University Academy, officials and youth, with special honor. We have to attend and come to our second city.

Congratulations to Dr. Jama Muse Jama, who is our leader to us, we are young Somalis, environment will be here as Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia and Djibouti, what we enjoyed much choice, and we will learn a lot from Somaliland.” Said the Ethiopian Somali Regional State Minister for Youth and Sports.

Speaking at the forum, the EU envoy said that they were very supportive of the centre, said,“The best way to Bridge to communities and People is culture and we concretions Dr. Jama Muse Jama, and HCC, on the organizing this Cultural event and we will support the establishment of Cultural Center in the City of Berbera.” Said Ambassador Nicolas Berlanga.

Ambassador Allen Chenhwa Lou, Tawin’s Ambassador to Somaliland, expressed Taiwan readiness for Somaliland’s development, he said, “We are supporting Somaliland, crotches of voter, agriculture, and technology by cooperating with the governed, but also we respect culture integration.”

Dahabshiil Group CEO Abdirashid Mohamed Said Duale spoke about the importance of economic growth for integration and good neighborliness and its role in employment, “Good neighborliness thrives the economy, connects communities, contributes to job creation, and I am pleased that this year’s Book Fair will encourage good neighborliness. We as a company are happy to participate in such events wherever they happen to be. ” said, Abdirashid Mohamed Said Duale Dahabshiil Group CEO speaks at the opening of the 14th Hargeisa International Book Fair.

On the other hand, The Ethiopian ambassador to Somaliland stressed the importance of holding the fair in Hargeisa.

“The Ethiopian Government is continuously supporting and working closely, with the People of Somaliland on social and economical development, such as the Berbera Port, but also share a deep cultural History.”said, Ambassador Said Jibril.

The Vice President of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail Sayli’i (SAYLICI), highly praised the active role of the Chairman of the Hargeisa Cultural Center and the importance of the nation to the Hargeisa International Book Fair.

“If we are Africa we must break free from isolation and integrate. Our African community must strengthen integration from one country to the next, Saylici said.

The Minister of Information, Culture and Awareness of Somaliland, Suleiman Yusuf Ali Koore, thanked Ethiopia and Djibouti for attending the Hargeisa International Book Fair, emphasizing the importance of writing and their readers.

Minister Yusuf Ali Koore, said they were only setting up a censorship office as a ministry. We are setting up a censorship office, which is now under our control. We have put together a team of experts who can correct the writing of community books to be brought.” said Minister Kore

Dr. Edna Adan, who also addressed the opening ceremony of the 14th Hargeisa International Book Fair, congratulated the Chairman of the Hargeisa Cultural Center, Dr. jama Muse jama his efforts to guide the youth of somaliland to development and to show the world peace in somaliland.

“The land of the rest of the world has no boundaries. That is why good neighborliness. The motto of neighborliness in the book fair is to promote good neighborliness, with limited boundaries.” said, Said Salah Ahmed, Teacher play Wright film Director.

 

The Hargeisa International Book Fair, held annually in Somaliland, honors one of the world’s countries for showcasing its culture and heritage. The last year, Egypt was honoured at the Hargeisa International Book Fair.

Also, previous year was honoured in Djibouti, 2012, United Kingdom in 2013, Malawi in 2014, Nigeria in 2015, Ghana in 2016, South Africa in 2017 and Rwanda in 2018.

This year in honor of Ethiopia, The slogan of this year, was “neighborliness”. Held in Hargeisa for the first time in 2008, the annual Hargeisa Fair is described as the largest cultural fair in the Horn of Africa.
