Introduction

The relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia is complex, encompassing historical,
economic, and strategic dimensions. Historically, their ties can be traced back
centuries, marked by trade and cultural exchange, albeit with occasional conflicts.
Today, economic interests form a fundamental aspect of their partnership, with
Ethiopia relying on the Port of Berbera in Somaliland for trade, reducing its
dependence on other ports. In return, Somaliland derives economic benefits, while bothnations cooperate in the area of security, particularly in combating piracy and terrorism.
