At a time when the economic and military power of the world has been greatly divided by the ongoing war in Ukraine, with the disappearance of the old powers and the creation of new alliances that have influenced countries that do not even have economic and military power,, but their geographic location makes them very important in the challenge, which is clearly felt in the Horn of Africa region.

The fleet led by Admiral Gorshkov, which carries modern Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, and the accompanying ship Kama began their journey in January 2023, departing from the main base of the Russian Northern Fleet in Severomorsk.

The convoy participated in military operations from February 17 to 26, in the coastal regions of the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. These activities took place during a joint exercise by the ships of Russia, China and South Africa.

Russian Navy ships stopped in Djibouti from 26 to 28 March 2023, the Russian military announced. At the end of March, units consisting of the ship Admiral Gorshkov and the ship Kama dropped anchor in the East African country of Djibouti.

According to a statement from the Military District of the Western Regions of Russia, the two ships “paid a working visit to the port of Djibouti”. During their stay, the officers of the ships and the Russian Embassy in Djibouti visited the Djibouti military camps.

This was explained to strengthen the military cooperation between the two countries, Djibouti and Russia.

Colonel Mohamed Djama Doualeh, Chief of the Djibouti Republic Guard, and the military wing of President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Moscow officials discussed issues such as “issues related to the safety of ships on the coast of Africa and the Red Sea region.

the strengthening of military cooperation, and the military exercise project between the Russian forces and Djibouti. It seems that Djibouti is currently a major part of the alliance led by China and Russia that recently won the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and this is another message that seems to be sent to the United States and its allies.

Although the United States has not previously relied on its allies in Djibouti when it comes to the presence of its military base there, the Chinese side has already lined up, investing billions in a country that does not have industries and production. But Washington has instead established a cooperative relationship with the unrecognized Republic of Somaliland on the eastern side of the Djibouti border and the strategic corridor of the Gulf of Adem and Bbablmandeb with the international port of Berbera, in which DP World has made investments.

During the war in Ethiopia in 2021, there were reports that the fighters of the Wagner group arrived in Djibouti to defend the Federal Government of Ethiopia, and at that time the TPLF, which was at war with them, approached the capital of Addis Ababa.

Therefore, Djibouti appears to have joined the alliance of Russia and China, which has formed an alliance that includes many countries in Africa and Asia as well as South Asia.
