Hargeisa (ANN) The International Partners in Somaliland who support the democratic process and elections have discussed the decision of the National Elections Committee of Somaliland this week to announce the schedule of the long-awaited elections.

The decision was welcomed by the political organizations that registered last year, but the two opposition parties rejected it, with the UCID party clearly saying that they do not accept it, while the WADANI party has not yet taken a clear position.

The international community has spoken about its position on the decision of the election committee to announce the period of the elections and how they will be conducted.

“The Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC), which sets out timelines for Political party Elections in December 2023, and Presidential Elections in November 2023. We recognize the concern of the Somaliland People in the time it has taken to reach this point. We now encourage all stakeholders to move forward with political consensus as the foundation for stability.” said the Statement.
